Biography
Dr. Maria Fiorella Contarino is an assistant Professor in Neurology at the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), The Netherlands, and neurologist coordinating the Deep Brain Stimulation program at the Haga Teaching Hospital in The Hague, The Netherlands.
Her main field of interest is the study of movement disorders, with a focus on advanced and innovative therapies and in particular neurostimulation approaches.
Furthermore, she contributed to the clinical characterization of patients with familial forms of dystonic syndromes or parkinsonism in the context of genetic studies.
She is Executive Committee member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society – European Session and Vice Chair of the Neurosurgery Study Interest Group (SIG) of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.
She is Associate Editor for the journal Frontiers in Neurology - specialty session “Movement Disorders”.
