Curriculum Vitae

Prof Ashkan qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1993 with commendations and underwent dual postgraduate training in surgery (FRCS) and medicine (FRCP). He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Neurosurgery in 2002. His subspecialist training in deep brain stimulation with Prof Benabid in France (2003) led to a MD degree. He was a senior lecturer at the Institute of Neurology and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery from 2004 to 2006. He was appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon and honorary senior lecturer at Kings College Hospital in January 2007. He was promoted to the position of Reader in Neurosurgery in 2011 and then to a Professor in 2014.

Prof Ashkan's main clinical and research interests include surgical management of movement disorders and pain, neuro-modulation, novel therapies for brain tumours and patient reported outcome measures. He has won over 20 undergraduate and postgraduate prizes and scholarships. He has attended/ chaired/ presented papers in over 150 national and international meetings and has published over 250 full papers, abstracts and book chapters.
