Prof. Gabriëls

Loes Gabriëls is Professor in Psychiatry at the university of Leuven and holds a degree in Masters of Sciences in Engineering. She got a PhD in medicine, and defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic of “deep brain stimulation in treatment refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder” in 2004.
She combines work as a clinical psychiatrist at the outpatient clinic for mood and anxiety disorders of the University Hospital Gasthuisberg of Leuven (Belgium) with research into neuromodulation techniques in psychiatric disorders.
She is involved in the evaluation and follow-up of over twenty-five patients with DBS for obsessive-compulsive disorder and patients with DBS for major depressive disorder, with follow-up times of over 10 years.
She is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and takes part in the task force on neuromodulation and in the task force on mood- and anxiety disorders of the “World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP)”
