1. Current position : In 2007 he is chief of clinic (“kliniekhoofd”) at the University Hospitals Leuven and is responsible for functional and stereotactic neurosurgery. He is member of the multidisciplinary pain clinic and movement disorders clinic and leads the multidisciplinary
spasticity clinic. He is member of the commission for neurosurgery for psychiatric disorders.

2. He is or has been member of several national and international societies, treasurer of the board of the European Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, president of the Belgian Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, president of the Benelux Neuromodulation Society and member of the Council of the "Europäische Akademie zur Erforschung von Folgen wissenschaftlich-technischer Entwicklungen Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler GmbH".

He is professor (“buitengewoon hoogleraar”) at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and teaches several courses in neurosciences in the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and FaBeR and leads an animal lab with postdocs, doctoral and master thesis students. He is coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus project EMMAPA.

Prof. Nuttin has / had several research contracts with Medtronic, the European Commission, the Research Council of the University, the Flemish Government (SBO) and the “Fonds voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek, Vlaanderen (FWO)”. He candidate is and has been leading several masters degree thesises and was promoter or copromoter of 4 succesfully finished doctoral thesises. He was reviewer for several scientific papers and books. He received 2 awards from the “Koninklijke Academie voor Geneeskunde van België”. He has published a series of papers in national and international high impact journals (e.g. Lancet), wrote 2 books and was interviewed 3 times by Nature. He owns or has applied for 4 patents.
