Course description

These 2 day tutorials offer stereotactic neurosurgeons the opportunity to expand their knowledge in the application of DBS for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease and Dystonia. The tutorials combine theoretical learning and hands-on experience

Target Audience

Neurologists and Neurosurgeons dealing with Parkinson’s Disease and Dystonia patients and interested in the use of DBS for the treatment of these conditions (referrers or implanters).

Topics to be covered

Day 1:

  • DBS and dystonic/dyskinetic syndromes; classifications, patient evaluation, selection criteria
  • Patient management
  • Physiopathology of movement disorders
  • MRI guided lead implantation
  • Presentation case to be operated on day 2
  • Case presentations by the audience (to be submitted in advance)

Day 2:

  • Frame
  • MRI session
  • Operating planning
  • Bilateral surgery
  • IPG insertion
